Parent Governor Vacancies (CLOSED)

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DEADLINE TO APPLY HAS NOW PASSED. NO FURTHER APPLICATIONS CAN BE ACCEPTED

Dear Parents/Carers

The school has two upcoming vacancies for parent governors to join the governing body for a 4 year term. We particularly encourage applications from parents with skills and experience in any of the following areas: finance, site management and education.

Becoming a parent governor offers you an opportunity to make a real contribution to the life and work of your child’s school. Governors play a crucial role in the leadership of the school: they appoint key staff, oversee the budget, ensure legal requirements are met and monitor curriculum progress.  Being a governor can be very rewarding and will provide you with the opportunity to meet new people, work as part of a team, gain new skills and contribute towards raising school standards. Training and support is available from the Local Authority and your colleagues on the governing body.

Please note that the most important duty of any governor is to attend meetings of the governing body and you should be sure that you are committed and available to do this before applying. At Hodge Hill College the governing body normally holds three meetings per term and the standard meeting time is 6pm on a Wednesday evening.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please download the nomination form below or collect a paper copy from the school reception. Return your completed form to school reception in a sealed envelope marked for the attention of Mr D Grady (Clerk to Governing Body). The deadline for returning nomination forms is Tuesday 17 January at noon.

The governing body has two vacant posts for parent governors. If more than two parents apply, an election will be held in which all parents will be invited to vote for their preferred candidates. The two candidates with the highest number of votes will be appointed.

New governors will need to undertake a full Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check and Section 128 (prohibition order) check. If you are new to school governance, the clerk will also arrange for you to attend the local authority’s governor induction training.
