Year 7 Equality and Literacy Competition
As part of our ongoing commitment to promoting equality and literacy, Year 7 pupils participated in a competition inspired by Article 2 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which states that every child has rights without discrimination of any kind.
This educational activity invited pupils to create either a poem or a creative poster focused on the theme of discrimination, helping them explore the importance of fairness, respect, and equal treatment.
The pupils engaged with the task, developing entries that utilised powerful language, vibrant visuals, and real-life or imagined scenarios to challenge inequality and promote acceptance. Through this activity, pupils enhanced their understanding of human rights, practised empathy, and refined their literacy, critical thinking, and creative design skills.
A particularly memorable aspect was the thoughtful and emotive language used in many entries, as well as the originality displayed in the poster designs. This initiative directly supports our school values of respect, inclusion, and community while allowing us as educators to contribute to the promotion of literacy.
