Year 9 Careers Event

On Wednesday 29th January 2014, Hodge Hill Sports and Enterprise College hosted a Year 9Careers Event. Led by National Grid CEO, Steve Holliday and supported by businesses such asCapgemini, Costain, HS2 and Whitbread, the ambition is to inspire young people to think about the choices they will have to make and the paths they might take to get the best chance of a job and successful career when leaving education or training.

he project is the brainchild of National Grid CEO, Steve Holliday, who is also Chair of Businesses in the Community’s Talent and Skills leadership team. Mr Holliday said: "Industry can’t just sit back and blame education for the fact that youngsters aren’t equipped with the skills we need. We have to play a part in that journey."

The first real decision students have to make is choosing their options and how this will impact on future careers and our visitors gave real life examples, from their own career to help inform our Year 9 students.

However, students also need to think about the approach they will bring to their studies to help them achieve the most from school and also about the skills they are developing as they move through school and this was also emphasised by our visitors, all of whom were anxious for our students to achieve and be successful in their studies.

All in all, the day was a success with both our students and visitors taking valuable information away from the day.
