Year 10 Work Experience

As part of the Year 10 Curriculum all students are expected to complete two weeks of unpaid work experience. Students are required to find a placement for the weeks commencing:

Monday 7th July – Thursday 17th July 2014.

Work Experience is essential for students’ development of skills and attitudes required for the world of work. It will help you to develop an awareness of your own worth, strength and weakness, as well as those of others, in a work-related situation. The whole process is good preparation for when you leave school.

Many students find that references from their work experience placement can be a great help in attempting to secure employment or college placements.

Finding a placement:

As part of work experience, pupils  must take the responsibility to find their own work placement. This teaches students the essential skills needed for the future once they leave school. Writing letters of application, attending interviews and considering transport and meal arrangements are some of the things that will have to be considered.

It is most important that permission is obtained from a person in a position of authority within the place where they wish to work. In the past a number of placements have fallen through because the person saying ‘yes’ is not in a position of authority.

Students will be responsible for their own travel arrangements and will not receive payment for their placements. The deadline for finding placements is Friday January 31st 2014.

All students are issued with booklets to guide them through the process of work experience and guidance is available from Mr Woodhead and Miss Khan.
