The Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

We have 12 year 10 pupils who have been successfully selected to take part in the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The Bronze award requires the pupils to complete 4 sections:

  1.  Skill Section – Where pupils will learn a new skill such as photography or dog training for 1 hour a week over 3 months
  2. Physical Recreation Section - Where pupils will take part in a sporting activity such as football, judo or cheerleading for 1 hour a week over 3 months
  3. Voluntary Section - Where pupils will volunteer their time at a local care home or charity shop for 1 hour a week over 3 months
  4. Expedition Section – Pupils will complete 3 camping expeditions where they will walk a distance of 15 miles over 2 days and camp for 1 night.

The pupils have just successfully completed their first training expedition camp where they completed a walk of 15 miles over Brown Clee whilst carrying all of their kit in a rucksack, cooked their meals using trangias and slept in tents. The pupils were able to see some fantastic views and came up close to a large selection of wildlife and animals.

Well done to all pupils who took part in the expedition!
