Hodge Hill - Care and Careers Project

12 students from Hodge Hill college have been working with Rikem Training & Consultancy Ltd to design a training game to help young people understand the importance of social values and being ready for the world of work.

The students have worked with Rikem over a 12 week period to design the game. This includes creating the design , the questions and being involved in marketing and promoting their product.  The students aged between 13 and 16 have worked in a team attending workshops out of school hours which have tested their motivation and commitment.

The students have gained skills and competences for the world of work including Leadership, communications , team working , problem solving , meeting deadlines and working with business representatives. Students developed real life skills that can be applied to many different situations and were given the opportunity to actively develop and improve these skills.

The students have been so committed that they have volunteered for work experience during holidays so that they can get the game ready for use and for other schools to purchase. This was an initiative that was proposed by the students out of their own interest and involvement throughout this project.

On Thursday 13th November 6 Hodge Hill College students attended the Skills Show at the NEC and promoted the Care and Careers game on the Birmingham City Council stand.  They had a very productive day including getting to meet Theo Paphitis from the dragons den who also signed a mini version of the game.  There was a lot of interest generated in the game that was professionally presented by the Hodge Hill students.
