End of summer term message from Headteacher

Dear Parents/Carers,

As another very busy year draws to a close our new year 11 are completing their two week work experience. Here at Hodge Hill College we believe in the importance of preparing our pupils for life after school and the world of work.  Each year group has a careers focus every year.  All our curriculum subjects link their subjects to the world of work and we begin the dialogue with pupils about their areas of interests, careers and the qualifications they need to be successful in their chosen career.

All pupils need the core subjects whatever career they choose: English Language and Literature, mathematics and science. In addition pupils need good verbal and written communication skills.  Work experience helps our pupils engage with other adults in the work place.  It helps them to understand the demands and expectations of employers.  In addition they begin to understand the scope of career paths within each organisation or business.

We are always pleased with the level of maturity displayed by our pupils on these placements and the way they develop throughout the placement. We find that they come back to college in September with renewed focus for the year.

Can I also take this opportunity to remind you that as of September we will no longer be selling water in the canteen. We will be giving each child a reusable drinking bottle and would ask that they bring this to school each day filled with water. In this way we are helping to reduce the amount of  plastic which ends up in landfill or in our seas.
