Duke of Edinburgh Qualifying Expedition

All pupils successfully passed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Qualifying Expedition. The pupils had to plan and undertake their route and create a video diary of their adventures. The pupils impressed the assessor with their map navigation, rucksack packing, camp craft skills. Bob James the assessor stated that what really made this group stand out above other groups he has assessed is just how well the group worked together as a team to get everything done. The assessor was that impressed that he has already offered to come and assess our groups next year.

The pupils should be really proud of their achievements, with the majority having now completed the whole Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award after they give their presentation. The pupils walked around the beautiful Long Mynd and were treated to some fantastic sunny weather. All of the pupils are keen to go onto the Silver award on completion of their Bronze.

These pupils are the first to complete their Bronze Qualifying Expedition since Hodge Hill College became a Directly Licensed Centre. Miss Palfrey, Duke of Edinburgh Manager commented that although the Duke of Edinburgh is in its early stages at the school, the pupils have really bought into it and pupils like this really demonstrate why we have started running the award here at Hodge Hill College. Taking pupils out into the countryside and developing their spirit of adventure is a key area we are looking to promote at the school.
