Introduction

In an increasingly dynamic and competitive World, understanding Business Studies has become a crucial survival kit for the 21st century student; no wonder Business Studies is one of the popular subjects at KS4 at HHC. The syllabi has been deliberately designed to promote a practical approach to learning by exploring business activities in the areas of Business Aims & Objectives, Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management, Production and the EU. It is important to note that Business Studies has cross-curricular links to Engineering, Mathematics, English, Geography and History, leading to a fun and broad-based learning. It is without doubt that the study of this course will equip you with the level of competence required for entrepreneurship and the world of work. The are passionate about the subject and are always looking for new methods of teaching and learning that will lead to successful outcome, thereby enabling you to excel in this subject.

Applied GCSE

Applied Business provides students with a better understanding of business through active participation in the business environment. It is ‘applied’ because you use what you learn to understand the businesses you investigate. You could either achieve a single GCSE grade or a double GCSE grade. The course encourages students to:

  • Gain a broad understanding of the business world
  • Actively engage students in the study of business and to develop them as effective and independent learners, and reflective thinkers with enquiring minds
  • Allow students to develop and apply their business knowledge, understanding and skills to contemporary issues in a range of local, national and global contexts
  • Enable students to appreciate the range of perspectives of different business stakeholders
  • Opportunity for students to consider the extent to which business activity can be ethical and sustainable

  • Unit 1- This unit is assessed under controlled conditions and forms 60% of your overall grade.
  • Unit 2 – This is externally assessed and forms 40% of the overall grade.
