Pastoral Care

In our last OFSTED inspection the quality of pastoral care that we provide at Hodge Hill College was highlighted as one of our strengths. The holistic approach of nurturing well rounded, happy students, in a safe and caring environment is led by a pastoral team with a wide range of expertise.

Every year group has access to a pastoral team whom have a wide range of expertise with an emphasis on support, care, guidance and academic excellence. The team comprises of an Achievement Coordinator (AC) responsible for tracking and monitoring the progress of all students in their year group. They are supported in their role by their Assistant Achievement Coordinator (AAC) who focuses on attendance issues and removing any barriers to learning. Together, the AC and AAC work with their Form Tutor team to ensure that the highest quality of pastoral care is maintained, all day every day. This work is supported by Key Stage Coordinators as well as members of the senior leadership team.

The team is dedicated to promoting health and mental well-being, while supporting students in their academic studies. Support is tailored to the individual needs: this in turn enables all learners to access the curriculum and realise their full potential. Each year group has a theme which underpins the work the pastoral team do, whilst providing a focus for the students throughout the year. Year 7’s focus is on Independence, whilst Year 8 is geared towards developing Citizenship. In Year 9 pupils focus on being Ready for Work, before Year 10 is aimed to promote Independent Learning. Year 11 focus is all about Work Hard, as the students prepare themselves for the next stage of their academic life.

Our values are centred on our CARE (Courtesy, Achievement, Respect and Empathy) brand. We see these core values as the foundations upon which young people can build a happy, healthy and wholesome school career. Such values and successes are recognised and celebrated via the school reward system, Work Hard Get Rewarded.

We have a strong student leadership structure at Hodge Hill College. Prefects demonstrate key leadership skills which promote democracy and student voice across the school. Student leaders have close links with wider community and have been involved in a range of successful charitable projects.

Outstanding care and guidance leads to an outstanding education; at the centre of this provision is our commitment in developing positive relationships with parents and carers so that each individual pupil dreams, believes and achieves.
